As a journalist, I wanted to change the world. After over a decade in the industry, I became disenchanted when I realized the narrative offered by the mass media was not helping build the world I wanted to live in. I also understood that by focusing on what was wrong in the world, it was difficult to bring about positive change, and in 2010 I decided to leave journalism.
If we want a heart-centered world, we need heart-centered leaders, both at a local and at a global level. That’s why in order to change our world, we must change ourselves; and in order to build a better future, we must focus on the little ones.
I have now repurposed my communication skills and turned to writing children’s books to inspire and empower them, providing spiritual tools to help them navigate life’s challenges. I hope the stories reassure children they are indeed extraordinary and special, even if sometimes the world around them might make them question who they are. And in those moments, I hope through my stories they remember to keep their hearts open and trust themselves.
The books are also meant to be conversation-starters with the adults they read the stories with (at home or at school), incorporating concepts on mindfulness and consciousness in children’s awareness at an early age.
Children are not only extremely intelligent but also naturally connected to their hearts, and the purpose of these books is to cultivate and encourage this further, making accessible topics that otherwise could be too abstract for them. In the adult world, conversations on mindfulness and consciousness are in full blossom. These books aim at gently incorporating children into these conversations.
My love for nature transpires in these books. My passion for traveling and protecting the environment has taken me to over 40 different countries. I have done volunteer work with orangutans in Borneo, stayed at an elephant sanctuary in Laos, was enchanted by Galapagos and explored the wildlife in Africa, including the mountain gorillas.
I have a profound love and respect for nature. There’s no future without nature. We are not separate from it and it doesn’t belong to us; we are part of it. And just like Toto, if we can listen and follow it with an open heart, the lessons we can learn are endless. The key to human evolution depends on allowing nature to teach us who we really are.
